PES PTA Sponsored Programs

Accelerated Reader
The AR program is an online resource provided through Renaissance Learning.  The program, sponsored by the PTA, allows children to score 'points' for each book they read and pass a test on.  The program allows for individualized learning and provides an opportunity for the teacher to monitor the children's progress.  For more information, pick up a flyer in the front office or go to  www.renlearn.com/ar/overview.aspx
Birthday Club
The birthday book club is a PTA program designed to add quality hard-covered books to our teachers bookshelves while recognizing our students on their birthdays.  Parents are asked to sign their children up for this "club" at the beginning of the school year.  When their special day arrives, they receive a special book that they can take home for a week.  This book then remains in their teacher's classroom with a special inscription for the student.
Book Fair
Our Fall and Spring Scholastic Book Fair is always a treat for the kids.  The library is transformed into a giant bookstore.
Contests
Fall Fundraiser
Each year the PTA holds a fundraiser in the fall to help support all of our wonderful programs.  From Sally Foster to Square 1 Art, we try to provide choices and options that will appeal to the families of our students.
Food Drive  / Label Program
Grandparents & Special Friends Week
This is an annual favorite for the students.  We host a special week for the children to have a guest at lunch.  Their grandparent or special friend may eat with them and hang out afterwards for pictures and book fair.
Grounds/Playground
The PES PTA is always looking for ways to improve the quality of life for our children.  The PTA has purchased items from mulch all the way up to playground equipment for our school.  The Dad's Club and other volunteers have put in many hours on PES grounds in an effort to keep our school as beautiful and safe as it can be for our children and our community.
Health and Safety
The Health and Safety Position is responsible for purchasing and maintaining stock on all medical supplies needed for students at PES.  These items range from plastic baggies to hold ice for "bo-bo's" to extra underclothes needed for those occasional accidents.  This position is also responsible for the Safety Drawing contest.  Student entries are judged on creativity and adherance to the annual safety theme.
Hospitality
Liaison Committee
The Liaison Committee is a great source of information for families with children that might have unique concerns such as students with special needs, attention difficulties, dietary restrictions, various learning challenges – and more.  All parents or guardians are encouraged to participate so that our children learn the importance of embracing individuality!
The Liaison Committee is the host for Celebrating Differences week, held each spring, as well as being the organizers of the Circle of Friends club for older students and their special needs buddies.  As we teach our children, it is OK 2 BU !
Library Volunteers
Parent volunteers help the library staff shelve books that are returned, help students and teachers select books, and sometimes help check in and check out books.  This is a fun way to help the librarians and children directly.  You might even be able to schedule your shift during your child’s library time.
Math Masters
A special thanks to the volunteers who offer there time to this invaluable program.  This is a cooperative program between the teachers and the PTA.  Teachers help to identify students who are struggling, and the PTA coordinator pairs these students with parent volunteers who offer one-on-one tutoring each week with their student.

Passage Day (3rd Grade )
This is a celebration for third graders for the efforts they have put forth during their years at Pontchartrain.  It will be the first time they walk the hall of Tchefuncte Middle School as a future fourth grader. Passage Day is a fun-filled day that includes a 'Fun Fair' and 'Luau'.

Reading Rangers
Again, a special thanks to the volunteers who offer there time to this invaluable program.  This is a cooperative program between the teachers and the PTA.  Teachers help to identify students who are struggling, and the PTA coordinator pairs these students with parent volunteers who offer one-on-one tutoring each week with their student.
Room Parent Team
At PES, we want to welcome parental participation and support in helping educate our children.  Instead of having ONE Room Parent mainly responsible for organizing all activities and events, we think it is fair to share responsibilities  by having multiple room parents or ROOM PARENT TEAMS for each class.  Being part of a RPT is a great way to meet other parents and PES staff.  It is less work when we share... and it is very rewarding!

Teacher Appreciation
We love our teachers!  The PTA hosts a back to school and end of year luncheon for our teachers.  We also provide various "treats" throughout the year.
Technology/Webmaster
Volunteer Coordinator
At the beginning of each school year, the PTA sends out a form that allows parents to review the upcoming volunteer opportunities.  Rather than being called each time we have an event, you can sign up for specific tasks that interest you.  The PTA volunteer coordinator will then have a specific list to hand out to committee chairpersons to help all of our events and activities run as smoothly as possible.

playgrounds that are grounds for learning

KidSense is a non-profit group founded by PES parents in order to build unique sensory yards for our children’s school, as well as three others in St. Tammany Parish.  The pilot yard, set to break ground in September, will be shared by Pontchartrain and Tchefuncte.  It will be used to help re-focus children with special needs, ADHD, or others whose sensory issues distract them from schoolwork.  KidSense yards are engineered to enhance education through recreation.
